Or did they assess the situation and conclude that the knife, was a greater threat to life, than an IED? If they genuinely thought the person was carrying an IED, which would likely comprise highly volatile homemade explosives like hmtd or tatp, then they were risking the lives of everyone nearby.

Tasering someone you think has an IED on their person sounds like a good way to get yourself and everyone nearby killed.

None of that is relevant, though. The suspect refused to drop the knife and had to be subdued by force.

Yep he's holding quite tightly onto a knife inches from the officers, they are in danger from him thr whole video.

Attempting to weaponise something like saying "steady on there" about police kicking an apparently barely conscious and pacified guy on the ground, seems like something only desperate people would do.

Err- he was pretty active even though he was tasered. Tasers don't incapacitate everyone

The Use of Force Continuum suggests the correct response to a knife is a conventional firearm. Tasers are not a reliable response against anyone with a bladed weapon, especially those on drugs or are psychotic. If anything the police underplayed it and risked their lives.

Current orders for tackling terrorists by armed officers is to kill them because the risk of a suicide vest is too high. So I guess a kick to the head for them isn't off message.
