Posts about relocating from urban to rural settings: expectations of boredom vs reported peace and solitude; references to missing the woods, forest sounds, and natural scents; criticisms of city noise, orange-tinged sky, car exhaust, and shallow social contacts (e.g., “friends” as drinking acquaintances).

Clean air. Water pumped out of the ground. No freeway noise. No sirens. No dogs barking. No people hollering in the distance. When you hear gunfire, you are happy that your neighbors are having a good time in the backyard range. If you see someone walking by, you know who it is. Your kids can play in the street, or in the woods, even your toddlers, and you dont need to protect them from child molesters and kidnappers. You can make a fire, sit outside, and smoke doesn't blow in your neighbors window. Fences are made of two straight wires. You can hear the wind blow through the trees. You can see the stars, maybe for the first time in your life. Northern lights aren't the same as the southern lights, and the western lights and the eastern lights, and they aren't all orange and white.

I briefly lived in a city while stationed there. Coming from the woods and having my mentality of run away as far as i can it was initially great. Created the lifestyle i always dreamed of until one night, im on my apartment balcony sipping rum and i look up. The sky is grey with an orange tint from the lights, i cant smell my rum from car exhaust and the serenade of the forest is gone replaced with constant drone of people. Took a few years but i realized i missed the woods and solitude. "Friends" i made were nothing but drinking acquaintances and my whole social life was in 3 square blocks.

On a helicopter tour in Hawaii, we were shown a remote beach where the normies couldn't reach. The tour guide said, even relatively recently, real Hawaiians lived there in paradise. But when offered to relocate to the land of microwave machines and blue jeans, they all unanimously abandoned their way of life. They were very bored of paradise and envied our commercial grind.

I grew up in a midsized city where I could play on the street and had a park nearby. It was great and wanted it for my kids. I couldn’t afford that type of house so I settled in a small community outside of the city. It has been a much better lifestyle and am happy I did it.
