Too woke? They didn't understand Roddenberry's Star Trek at all, it was always woke and ahead of its time, not backward in mental attitude, even not when looking for good stories in Kirk's time. TOS was part of my youth and I watched everything since them, more than twice and Academy is a treasure.

Killing David as one of the things that gives Spock's return some consequences gives us a genuinely great response from Shatner, but it's funny they basically throw away the setup for a spinoff TV show and Kirk and Spock's two children (literal and figurative) having adventures.

Ah, the moment when the cultures of Romulans and Klingons officially swapped. Klingons had previously mostly been usurpers, sneaking behind the scenes and manipulating things. Meanwhile, Romulans were the ones devoted to honour, glory and duty, with their Bird of Prey which had a cloaking device.
