It was like that with stocks, in Germany. There was all of this hype over the Volksaktie (Deutsche Telekom) and a bunch of pensioners and stuff bought into it at the ATH and lost a fortune when the neu market crashed. That's why Germans are surprisingly poor. They own no houses, they own no gold, they own no stocks. Just Deutsche Mark, which became the Euro funny-money.

Mt. Gox (2010–2014): Headquartered in Tokyo, Mt. Gox was the world’s leading Bitcoin exchange, once handling over 70% of all global Bitcoin transactions. It suffered multiple security breaches, culminating in a 2014 collapse after losing 850,000 Bitcoins (worth roughly $450 million at the time). Coincheck Hack (2018): This remains one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in history. Hackers stole 58 billion yen (approx. $530 million) in NEM tokens. The breach prompted the Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) to significantly tighten regulations on crypto exchanges. Zaif Hack (2018): In September 2018, the Osaka-based exchange Zaif lost approximately 6.7 billion yen ($60 million) in various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin.
