PLEASE, I beg of you, to not describe California City Detention (which had been operating w/out permits) as being “better.” It was barely issued permits earlier this month but has been operating and stuffing detainees like sardines for a long time. It is one of the worst of detention centers.
Exactly. I miss the wonderful things and people I know in NY state and New England. But having once spent a few hours in the stainless steel room at the border a decade ago - when a committee meeting invite raised understandable suspicions - I am not keen on crossing in this environment.
