UK spent £100bn on a train set which will be slow and obsolete by the time it starts rolling. UK also sold off its oil and gas resources. It failed to invest in alternatives unlike Spain. Too many cars, poor public transport, poor cycling provision. Poor quality housing, wildlife decline. BREXIT
In 2022 the Senedd required all Welsh local authority pension funds to get rid of their investments in fossil fuels by 2030. But still, over a £125m is invested rip off, climate busting fossil fuel companies. nation.cymru/news/welsh-p... Now invest in community renewable energy & our children!

Eine sinnvolle Ergänzung zu Windparks sind Batteriespeicher deren Bau von unserer Lobbyvertretung in Berlin ebenfalls behindert wird. Basically all these industries were waiting for was for consumers to be handed a good reason to walk away from industries and products that they don't particularly like and only use because they think they've got no choice. So yeah, shit's gonna get weird.
It's sad to me that just as renewable energy is becoming a real solution, the oil industry and their right-wing lapdogs in politics are doubling-down on fossil fuels. Not only are we damaging the planet, we're sacrificing our economic future. We could spend that money saving Earth and ourselves.
A better solution instead of filming the planet to an environmental catastrophe leading to all our extinctions.. stop the dependency on fossil fuels and petro producers like plastics, lubricants, moisturizers. There are other solutions to fill those needs. Use this moment as a catalyst for change

Spain just casually quit coal and now has cheap electricity. Meanwhile some countries still think fossil fuels are the answer. 🤷♂️

"SPP's battery fleet hit 550 MW in December. The region queued 54 GW but only 1% built. Skeleton Creek's 252 MW shows the Surplus pathway works fast. Question is whether the new Consolidated Planning Process finally unclogs the remaining 53.5 GW."
CPP folds in current DISIS-queued projects. Queued projects may choose to re-enter at a PIL if they trigger the additional UPIL upgrade costs 100% agreed on bilateral contracts. We're seeing one of two options: RA with utilities, or PPAs with data centers. Any we're missing?
Decoupling is somewhat of an understatement. The fossil fuel industry hid their rising costs and unhinged profiteering by lobbying government and the Department of Energy to cross-subsidise fossil fuels (particularly gas) - masking on bills how cheap and secure renewable energy has been for years.

Not exactly. OPSB is pre-existing entity with oversight for projects 50+ MW. SB 52 (2022) gave local governments effective veto power over solar & wind projects. OPSB has read that law to mean when it considers whether solar or wind projects are "in the public interest" local opposition is decisive
Yes could have been clearer. All newer (post-2014) renewables have CfDs and can cover costs at their fixed contract prices. For older renewables (that get RO subsidies) or nuclear, these do get paid prevailing wholesale power prices, and so benefit when gas prices spike (and lose when they fall).

The UK has just about the same wind capacity as Spain. What we have done I. The UK is lock our renewable prices to gas.

Always an excuse to go against renewables from the "ever skeptics". 🙄

It’s called an energy mix. You cut gas usage during day, you only need costly gas at night (or wind? hydro? battery?)

These are facts most pro green energy folks never want to acknowledge. Im not against green energy, but far to often i see sides only tell half the story. And that needs to change.

This one plant + an open interconnector to France that was open, was the cause. Plant caused net instability. Open interconnector prevented further stabilisation.

When, if ever, does anyone expect oil prices to drop? How likely is it that the world will become accustomed to these prices, just like everything else, and the prices will never return to what they were just 3 months ago? Making a living is expected; what does making a "killing" deserve?🤔

President Joe Biden was quiet quitting in the Middle East with his energy policy that Trump has busy work to undo and now he’s got us into Iran. Russia is taking advantage of this. China is taking advantage of this and we’re going broke. Trump obviously is a Russian asset and operative

Serious Q - I see this a lot. Spain doing this, UK that, Germany the other. If you scratch the surface, it's the same. Only electricity (≈20% of our energy consumption) - the low hanging fruit, is being considered. Experts say that only radical solutions remain. This seldom gets a mention

But Nigel Farage says that rising oil prices prove we should rely on oil and forget renewables I have no reason to doubt his integrity Well, apart from everything he’s ever said and done

The missing link is that Spain also decoupled its electricity price from that of gas. The UK did not. So while both successfully embraced renewables, only one saw the prices drop. The good news is that the UK can still do this decoupling. It must do it urgently.

Just drove through part of Spain the last two days, from Barcelona to Zaragoza and Bilbao. Amazed at all of the wind farms and solar panels. And it was windy!
