Posts about protests: one says "My local news did not cover the protests at all," another suggests "Yes, you can add global protests too," and a third expresses hope from protest footage: "I love seeing footage from massive protests. It connects people..." Themes: news coverage, global protests, footage connecting people.

hell yes protest. and, i wonder if you could describe your definition of a nihilist? what else do the people who argue protests don't work believe? i'd love to complicate that word- i know nihilists who still get out and do what needs doing: they just have a different relationship to the future.
A excerpt: "Resistance requires putting yourself in harm’s way. Taking an economic hit. Making a real sacrifice to demonstrate solidarity to someone who has no other reason to trust you. Resistance isn’t protest. It’s persistent disruption and non-compliance. And it’s imagination." Prof Sam Greene
"People can think whatever but I love seeing footage from massive protests. It connects people for more organization. Or helps them feel less isolated. Might not be everyone but it helps. Everyone starts somewhere."
At the the most basic level , it reminds me that there are not terrible people everywhere . The bigots are very very loud but there are regular people who are not hateful and I can feel the tiniest glimmer of hope
Poor choice of words on my behalf. What I meant was although they were nationwide events, timewise they were apart. In Georgia (Europe) people have been protesting every evening since 2024. www.bbc.com/news/article...
"Congratulations to all the fine patriotic non flag waving citizens of the USA participating in this protest. A national strike and other events will set you free. It's your only hope. 😿"
I thought the Madison Square Gardens thing was over the top but they ate that shit right up, didn't they ?
Something like this happens to me after major protests: people see me in the grocery store the same day and make excuses for not being at a rally, and honestly I don't give a fuck about your reason. Go or don't, but you don't get credit for "really wanting to." Just say "Sorry I missed it!" and go
"protests are good to be around real people who feel the way you do. or maybe just close to the way you do. or maybe not all that close but matching on many major issues and not nasty over the stuff you don't agree on. the point of these was having cameras on them, but they serve another purpose now"
I would get it if someone was purely a shitposter but I'm sorry, there's a point where the doofus dancing on an inflatable costume is doing way more than a teratoma posting on how Trump is the first MTW president and how anyone who was affected by it is a pampered baby bc they haven't read J. Sakai.
Those numbers are great, yet the demographics in the local elections have me hoping not confident in Nov. elections. The demographics continue to show POC coming out in HUGE numbers pulling those Dems into office. So, I hope these people marching on Saturday vote Dem in November. We need EVERYONE.
And again, I will keep saying this until I die: police have said again and again that it is not one big centralized protest that scares them, but many simultaneous small and medium sized protests spread out that terrifies them What stresses the system is sustained, small actions everywhere.
Many people have forgoten that change dont come from civility, non violence as a tactic only works when one also has the credibly threat to be violent if the government refuses still. There has to exist an actual economic and political force behind it, not just people standing in a street.
"The protests weren't that impressive if you were an op-ed writer with your fingers in your ears and going "Lalala can't hear you.""
I have come to believe there should be a term limit on getting paid to have opinions. One opionion a week? You get nine months, tops. One a month? A year and a half. It obviously poisons peoples brains making a living just from having opinions, especially in a media landscape funded by clicks.

While I was doing my first round of protests yesterday, I turned to another woman my age & said, "didn't we do this already?" We'll do it again for our kids this time but it would be nice to have all the young folk step up so we can drink wine and go to the movies with friends....as God intended.
Anyone looking for direction on how we can build community to protest effectively, consider the ActUp model of protest. Back in the '80s & '90s, actup activists forced change. We can too. At the least, please review the actup civil disobedience manual to understand your rights & responsibilities.
This is damn near verbatim what I tell my spouse. I tell him not to get my hopes up on change because the disappointment is worse on a personal level, not to mention that fucked up shit goes on in our name and on our dime. Quarterly protests aren’t enough; we need our own disruptive ops.
