I *sort of* get what she's saying as someone from very small town Michigan. The average Midwest yokel despises anything coming from big city elites. They truly believe coastal elites are out of touch. More people than you'd think across party lines think like that around here, too.

Zohran Mamdani doesn’t happen without Milwaukee sewer socialism. You don’t get labor rights without Chicago, Flint, and Minneapolis standing and fighting the cops in the 1930’s and shedding literal blood, just like the coasts.

I call it mush brain. She thought she’d come up with a winner of an idea - a catchy line - encompassing current but prevailing nonsense about “east coast elites and pointy headed libs” and “west coast hippies”, along with ”solid, salt of the earth mid-westerners”. And then calls it a theory.

Funny, Slotkin had no qualms about aggressively fundraising on the coasts. As a proud coastal citizen who donated in the past, I vow that I will not give a dime to her, or anyone espousing the heartland vs coastal argument.

Why copy catting? How about cogent strategies that have solutions for local communities as well as a big picture view nationally. Voters care about national issues but vote for state and regional candidates that share their values and understand their local problems. Pretty simple.

I have a theory: aligning behind universal principles like healthcare, affordability, anti-corruption, anti-monopoly, strong unions, treating *all* of the people in this country with dignity according to their human and constitutional rights works as well in the middle as on the coasts

True. I grew up in Idaho. Michigan meant “Detroit” to us. Mountain west identity is distinct. Even Colorado was “the plains.”

State and regional identity is a massively important factor in any campaign's messaging strategy, you have to show you share or (if running for president) at least understand it. But there's no such template that's the same in AL and IN and MT and NM. The very premise is insulting condescension.
