Even on the occasions he went bankrupt, he still somehow held onto the power and leverage of his brand (and bolstered by some dubious Russian money). It's not instinct, it's his position ...until it isn't.
Yes, he did declare bankruptcy 6 times, out of how many business ventures he has started? And just because you declare bankruptcy of a business doesn't mean it was a failure. Businesses declare bankruptcy all the time that are still around today. There are different chapters of bankruptcies.
