Artists' profits and transphobic funding

Yes, friend, exactly. There’s a big difference between enjoying a story in isolation and actively supporting a living creator who uses her platform and money to push harm toward trans people. That distinction matters.

If you're willingly giving money to someone to use to fund a group's eradication, at best you don't care about them and at worst you actively support what is happening. That entire spectrum falls under the category of "bad person"

Chappelle doesn't use his money to fund harm ful measures against trans people. at best, he inspires transphobic cultural norms at most he's just a transphobe. jkr in comparison has said she uses profits to fund transphobic organizations; she's said it recently aswell

the fuck it isn't. Look, if SHE tells you she is not only going to use any money she gets from you to hurt trans people, and also says that any support for her work AT ALL means you support her views, and you engage with it ANYWAY, yes, you are a bad fucking person. and yes, its about trans people

She has financially supported organisations and legal campaigns that have actively pushed cases and arguments against trans inclusion in law and policy. Whatever excuse ppl use, those $$ and platforms are part of the broader ecosystem driving real-world legal and political pressure on trans rights.

Maybe that’s easy to say if you’re not a member of the minority she’s helping to remove human rights and dignity from. I think saying they are a “bad person” is a massive understatement.

brother this is extremely an argument about trans people, and how materially supporting and enriching a woman who has waged a war on trans rights with a terrifying level of success by directly spending that wealth does actually make you a bad person

worth remembering that she says she views any consumption of her media as being pro-transphobic and so to spend money on her work now is to egg her on

If you dig your copy of a fondly remembered novel by an abuser out of the closet, quietly read it and put it back, you are all good to go! If you buy the new edition, stream the show, and never stop talking about it, you are now funding and giving more opportunities for abuse.
