Each weekly paycheck you get is based where the game has taken place. This is the case regardless of where your residence is. These are still crocodile tears from Schneider but your primary residence doesn’t matter in terms of pro sports

Disappointed in John for this. He's built a culture where excuses aren't tolerated yet this is basically a giant "blame the government" card he's trying to play early. NY and CA teams can pull high $$ talent in all sports. Lower tax states can pull talent but that doesn't make you a winner.

NFL could level the playing field by allowing the salary cap to be adjusted for state income tax. Good luck getting billionaires to agree to that.

I might have had Indy and TEN mixed up - is it Tennessee that has no tax? In which case, yes, Indy gets the bargain. JAX athletes do owe the Crown taxes when they play in London (45%!) but can deduct that entire amount from their US taxes, so it's kind of a wash.

If the state where teams played matter, only the pacific coast, Minnesota and Illinois, New York, and Massachusetts would be the only teams with Super Bowls in the last two decades

I don't think the impact of state income taxes on local sports teams should be a serious part of political discussion but also I think it's dumb to be angry at John Schneider for saying that there is in fact an impact.

There are something like 7 states without income tax now (not counting Washington state), and a half dozen NFL teams located in those states. If those teams were automatically better, then we’d be talking about the Super Bowl champion Las Vegas Raiders.

Like most state tax rules it would be applicable to home game earnings only and apply to both teams. Seattle players had to pay CA taxes for their Super Bowl.
