CJEU (CJUE) ruling: a member state must allow change of gender in civil status for its nationals who have exercised free movement within the EU; the right to respect for private life protects gender identity. Sample texts: "La CJUE juge qu'un Etat membre doit autoriser le changement de genre à l'état civil" and "home country can't refuse to amend their registration details to match their lived gender identity."

Sadly the UK isn't signed up to the Charter any longer, so not sure how any of this could be relied on here. Boris effing Johnson took us out of it when we were busy with Covid.😡

it also sometimes surprises the Anglosphere because they still think of the GDPR as a privacy law, when in fact it's based on the concept of inalienable dignity; hence it includes: - right to be forgotten - prohibition on automated decision-making - requires informed actively opt-in consent
It’s still potentially useful, the closer UK wants to get back to the EU (even Blue Lab realise this now), the more likely their anti Trans policies will cause them problems & it won’t hurt either if the separate ECHR finally kicks in with a ruling then they can’t turn their back on the court.
This is actually significant. This is not an immediate and sweeping change like Oberfell - only appears to apply for documents that are included for freedom of movement. Does not mean a Hungarian can move to Ireland, get a gender dysphoria diagnosis, and then move back and get medical access.
"Transidentité : La CJUE juge qu'un Etat membre doit autoriser le changement de genre à l'état civil de ses ressortissants (citoyens européens, donc). Dès lors qu'ils ont exercé leur libre circulation dans l'Union. Sachant que le droit au respect de la vie privée protège l'identité de genre."
Importante dernière phrase, pas nouvelle mais un rappel utile
