Posts about local NIMBY opposition to development and transit: debate over a commuter service on the canal (concerns: water level, speeds, wash), complaints about neighborhood councils blocking projects on Wilshire (user reports members saying “developers are colonizing the neighborhood”), and praise for city/state laws limiting local NC powers.

There’s an account on Instagram that pits the worst intersections in this crazy town against each other. Hollywood & Highland or Highland & Franklin? Both suck but I do Franklin because my gawd with the tourists and assorted costumed peeps on Hollywood Blvd. Think insane asylum with a long light.
I'm very curious about the rental situation in that Skinker-D/DPlace/CWE area post-tornado... do we have any ballpark idea of how many multi-fam buildings/units are offline? I'd also think it would be hard to find places for rent like these. Or maybe the market wasn't affected too much?
"One fascinating echo between the Highland Park Way discussion and the Pioneer Square bike corral discussion is the idea that SDOT trying to do two things at once (create a bike lane, improve driver safety) somehow makes the project *more* suspect and open to criticism."
When the grandson of the Brave New World guy is quoting Orwell you know, well I'm not sure what you know other than he needs a new hobby.
btw, the original Vegas Loop was contracted for $48.7 million and wound up costing $53 million. So if you go ahead with this harebrained tunnel scheme, expect to wind up paying $6 million to $7 million all in. (Plus the costs of paying the drivers, because the cars can't drive themselves.)
WTaF? And why is a Judge considering what a mayor said in opposition versus what he said having been elected as evidence that the motovation was mainly financial? As for 'Our Open Roads', these are residential streets. Roads are hardly open if non-car occupants are marginalised out of existence.
This is why the SL14 (Chingford-Stratford) is nonsense. It serves heavily congested 2 lane roads in Chingford and Walthamstow. At best, it won't be able to overtake regular buses like the 158 safely, at worst it will crawl along in traffic. All while TFL ignore places that actually need more buses.
in my second meeting, wong + a few other members screamed me down for advocating for a project that would replace an empty parking lot on wilshire. like, "developers are colonizing the neighborhood" level meltdown on a zoom call with 11 participants. completely unserious left NIMBYism
