Obviously we’re all just giving Our opinions on here so I’m throwing stones from a glass house but it annoys me that Yglesias acts (and is sometimes treated) as an election guru despite never having put any of his theories into practice.

Change public opinion? Politicians regularly ignore public opinion and use talking heads like you as their cover.

The reason people keep talking past each other about this is because some people think elected politicians are "leaders" and "leaders should lead." But they aren't leaders. Never have been. Not their job. Thinking otherwise is making lots of people miserable.

matt just doesn’t want to try to defend his conservative policy preferences on their merits so he frames arguments for adopting conservative positions as analysis of the electoral benefits of progressivism it’s disingenuous
