I guess all republicans are just like Trump: they want to stay in power at any cost and at everyone's expense. Collusion means they don't care about democracy. However, it is shortsighted. History does not lie. In the end, dictatorships are untenable because extreme loyalty is unsustainable.

I don't think so. Post-WW2 Republicans would have never impeached Reagan or either Bush for doing this. They definitely didn't want to see Nixon receive any punishment, thus Ford's pardon. I think even Eisenhower would escape most Republicans' gaze except perhaps evangelical hard-liners.
