Posts from artists expressing anger and concern about generative AI: accusations of using AI (phrases like "accuse an artist of AI" and "weaponized followers"), experiences of hostility from "tech bros" (called "parasite"), and job-market anxiety about entry-level designers needing to "run a generative ai machine."
Created 5 days ago • 480 documents • Range: 2/10 2:50am – 2/13 8:40pmOk I'm fucking pissed off. Someone on the Internet Archive reviewed my video and implied that I used AI for the vocals. I did not and would never use AI for ANYTHING creative and certainly not anything I would ever put my name on. Fuck AI. And fuck the reviewer for not checking the SOURCES I cited.
#TechRadar Swiss scientists want to make long AI-generated videos even better by preventing them from 'degrading into randomness' - is that a good idea? I am not so sure https://techrad.ar/Z7J8 #Pro
i feel like even if there's a risk eventually the 'warning shots' will be very clear, if you don't already have ai psychosis you're not going to be the first person on your block to get it either. so you can just quit later, like von neumann converting to catholicism at the last possible second
I think it'll be much worse when people realize how dishonest they've been - "Oh you'll be fine if you have a customer-facing care-based job" or whatever. Even if that's true, we could see a massive re-skilling wave that increases competition with the remaining jobs that are left
"50K jobs lost to AI. 80K new AI jobs created paying 25% more. The workers who stayed are burning out. The safety teams are quitting. Nobody has a plan. What the Honk, Spotify? But Google opened Project Genie to let you build 3D worlds from a text prompt, so at least the future looks fun!"

If I was in his shoes, my main worry now, besides beating the competition, would be what happens when denial turns into people freaking out as they eventually realize what's going on. So I very much understand why most AI lab leaders want to be careful with their words when it comes to predictions.
AI is not a savior of the incompetent; it is a high-frequency accelerator of existing trajectories. If the vector of an engineering culture is pointed toward "slop," AI simply ensures they hit the wall at terminal velocity.
Very true: > even without AI, a whole bunch of slop gets developed out there. Especially in companies where you have deadlines. You have no idea, how much BS they create under pressure. Accumulating technical debt for decades My 'engineering' colleagues aren't good and are badly led. They can't deliver anything with quality above a certain level of complexity. AI simply means they get to their crappy solution sooner rather than later. It doesn't help them step up to a better level of quality. But the people who actually are good engineers, who understand everything you discuss, are being supercharged by AI if they are careful to understand its strengths and weaknesses

Not content to waste natural resources, they also want to waste the labor & time of artists. The message being sent now is, "don't even take a job replacing their AI slop, because the fact that they used it in the first place shows how they disrespect you, and will continue to disrespect you."
Musk says AI will make it so you get everything you want and wont have to work. Bullshit. Companies want AI so that they do not need to employ YOU. Their profits will go up. Why would they ever lower their prices or give you anything for free? Look what they are doing now to the USA for money.
You know how half of all JRPGs and shonen anime climaxes are "Oh no the collective unconscious is manifesting in the real world, we must fight a representation of the id" Anyways That's basically how I feel every time I try to sift through the AI images in search results now. But with worse music
Honestly, the entire conversation thread here proves you wrong. There's considered, knowledgeable discussion all the way down, which is much more nuanced than AI boosters. It's only been a couple of years since non-lunar boosters stopped talking about AI becoming sentient. There's your problem.

No, my concern was how a group member's use of Ai would effect my grade (if caught) after I realized that a peer was "100% likely" to be using Ai for their assigned written responses. Prof responded with a general policy to use Ai ethically (eg citations), w/o mentioning any consequences.

This is the bull case for AI as I see it (software dev): allow anyone with a little computer knowledge and patience make the stuff they need for the computer. It’s not at all clear to me that the people that make the AI or own the computers it runs on must be the ones that make money on it

I've been hammering on the AI doofs I have to work with, "How do you evaluate success" "How do you make sure it's producing good work?" The people pushing for AI are CLEARLY trying to eliminate jobs, it's 100% what they are up to. They have no idea how to DO the jobs they are trying to eliminate
