Posts criticizing Radiohead and Thom Yorke as "boring", "up themselves", and "utterly without charm"; includes an anecdote about Thom Yorke's entourage telling a DJ to "turn the music down" and claims people "pretend to like" the band, with a comparison to Joy Division.

"Made myself a 90s music playlist to work to this week and I still have some visceral reactions to certain songs that I listened to as a teen. It's taken me years to listen The Bends by Radiohead again without certain teen memories making me want to implode with cringe."
Is there such thing as anti-nostalgia.
"Thom Yorke once sent one of his bootlicking entourage over to me in a club I was DJing at in Oxford in about 1995 to tell me to turn the music down, so this lot can fuck right off. They are the one of the most boring, up themselves bands on the planet. Utterly without charm. Like this song is."
I'm convinced they're one of those bands that people pretend to like b/c it's perceived as cool, despite 90% of the output being gash. See also: Joy Division
"Ever had a band you love live on stage but don’t care much for their studio work, or vice versa?"
Acouple at the top of my head. Nine Inch Nails. Slipknot Acts whose records i like/love but are miles better live. Radiohead Spoon The Replacements Hot Snakes Irreversible Entanglements(their records are amazing) Wilco Orbital
I also remember a gig at the Scouts hut in Birdsfoot Lane and another UK Decay/Bauhaus gig at Luton Tech. Think that was the last of that stuff because I got into Japan, maaaa’an.
I barely remember them, but I *do* recall thinking they were the real deal in a bunch that were mostly for shits’n’giggles (including the one I was in for 5 mins, one gig: Lilley church hall!). Talking of ‘Smith’. Did Martin Segovia/Smith do anything else? (think he was training to be an Architect)
Hah it is quite niche isn't it. Rob's loathing of Morrissey goes back a bit though, I think Rob had the measure of Morrissey early doors. Btw if you want an eye opening account of the early 80's alternative music scene read Budgie's memoir 'The Absence'.

"Charmless" is indeed one of the best ways to describe Radiohead's music. There are others, which are even less flattering.
