Discussion of housing supply and renting: documents state “homes being owned by a company takes them out of the housing supply. Those houses are being rented!”, call for increasing housing stock — “We must build enough housing.” Mentions short‑term rentals (Airbnb/VRBO) as useful for vacation properties but with “localized impacts” such as neighboring short‑term party rentals and overall small impacts on housing costs.

Yup. I did a deep dive this semester for my urban economics class. It didn’t surprise me and I was pissed reading the history of the city. And then we can’t even live in these areas now because of gentrification and displacement. It’s just crazy. And them YT folks so scared of us doing something 🙄😒
I LOVE this perfect comments thread: Adam: Prices are high. We should build more housing. Allen: There's no more land! Zoning isn't a problem nor has it ever been a problem! Building more doesn't lower prices! Check out the final line in Allen's reply (purple) -- STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS!!!
If they all raise prices, they all make more money. No altruism required. So when one landlord sees another landlord raise rent by 5%, they'll immediately do the same. And thats not even getting into how landlords deliberately induce artificial scarcity as a regular business practice.
This is Texas everywhere encouraged by Abbott who wants to “attract investors to come to Texas”. They build neighborhoods with rental houses. Scads of them. The rents are nothing working people can afford. They hold your first-last month’s rents and invest the money. It’s a disgusting disgrace.
They’re out of ideas and they’re about to screw you Before we get into it: if you’re receiving this via email, thank you. You’re already subscribed. If you’re not, now is the time. The 50-year mortgage is being floated as the next big idea to “fix” housing affordability. And if that sounds like a
setting aside how stupidly banal that article is for a second: don’t most people say they’re in those houses? like yeah i’m sure that people who like the only plot relevant houses are better at being “entrepreneurs”, as opposed to the literal nothing in the filler houses. real insightful shit here.

Capitalism built all the houses isn't true, though, is it? There are houses built under any system of government. That's not exclusive to capitalism. It happens we're capitalist, so you can phrase it that way, but the implication that houses wouldn't have been built otherwise is not true.
Landlords should be legally responsible for renovations/maintenance on the property. The property is theirs and they can increase the rent/evict, but the tenant gets nothing when they move out/are evicted... It's not fair that those who don't own property have to bear more expenses for the property.

Jon, I’ll look forward to following your successes leveling rents and increasing our total housing stock. Agreed that large corporate majority ownership would be a problem — I’m always relieved, when hearing electeds make points like these, to remember how far away that is from becoming reality.
🏡 Exclusive listings might sound appealing, but they could cost you. Without full market exposure, how do you know you're paying a fair price? Competition benefits buyers too! More listings = better deals. https://difrancoteam.com/the-truth-about-exclusive-listings-what-buyers-need-to-know/
Halfway houses are putatively NFPs, utilized primarily by newly released prisoners. They were and are poorly or un-regulated by the states. Often run by former drug addicts. To claim that a loose collection of halfway houses constituted a competent master plan for deinstutionalization is ludicrous.
