but at some point you stop believing there's jeopardy if even close battles end up with the same winner. It's like what happened with Pogi/Mathieu on the road: even if the race has been fairly exciting ppl find it boring just because the expected guy won in the end.

How about not going for a GC rider? There was a top 4 sprinter available who wins 7+ WT races every year, including GT stages against the top 3 sprinters. THAT is my issue. That Ineos keep dumping money into a GC program that just can't succeed because they don't have a top 3 GC rider.
