Posts calculate the 1840s value of 15 shillings: one thread uses 1843 rate (1 GBP = $4.44) to get $3.33 then ~$124 in 2025; another converts 15 shillings to 75 new pence → £83.18 in 2025 → $111.46 (USD at 1.34). Threads include a correction and admission of an original miscalculation.

Leaving the original post up because I own my mistakes. I didnt fact check the original meme cus im American and with how bad our economy is (and me knowing nothing of the shilling) it just struck me as very believable. Glad I could learn something new and correct accidental misinfo!
I've noticed some posts about Bob Cratchit earning less than the modern American minimum wage. Much as I wish it was true, 15 'bob' in 1843 is worth $124.10 today; so he was clearing about half as much as a full time red state wage slave. So it's a Republican goal, not an accomplishment (yet).
Just got the "Christmas Bonus" you get if you're on PIP in the UK (one of the two disability payments I get) It was introduced in 1972 to "assist with the increased costs associated with winter/Christmas" The "bonus" is £10, and has not once been adjusted for inflation, in 53 years. --
